Steel Chef Challenge Raises Money for New Hampshire Food Bank

A cooking contest in Manchester has raised thousands of dollars for the New Hampshire Food Bank. Celebrity chef Michael Symon was the host of this year’s Steel Chef Challenge. The competition took place at the Armory Ballroom at the Doubletree Hotel on Monday evening. Symon also hosted the event in 2020, just days before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down in New Hampshire. “It’s a wonderful event. It’s for a fantastic cause. New Hampshire. They’ve always treated me very well here,” Symon told News 9. Symon runs his own foundation to help those struggling with food insecurity. At Monday’s event, he auctioned off an autographed knife and cooking lessons, raising around $15,000 for the New Hampshire Food Bank. This year, the Steel Chef Challenge commissioned four local chefs to prepare dishes using lobster, sausages and olives. The winner was John Bouley, Sous Chef at RiverMead in Peterborough. WMUR’s Erin Fehlau helped judge the event.
