Cavan Credit Union’s new debit card and checking account service will launch this Friday morning, September 16, with Minister Heather Humphreys, herself a former Credit Union executive, on hand to do the honors.

Talk to Anglo-CelticTherese Conway, CEO of Cavan Credit Union, said there was growing demand from their members for the facilities.

“In response to member demand, and in direct response to the impending withdrawal of Ulster Bank and KBC from the Irish financial market, Cavan Credit Union is delighted to now be able to offer members the benefits of a checking account and a debit card, which can be used anywhere in Ireland or overseas,” she said.

Thérèse advised: “We have a dedicated member of staff in charge of the current account offer. Danielle Quigley, a long-time staff member with excellent banking knowledge, has been appointed Director of Member Services and her role is to meet those wishing to open a checking account and guide them through the process. This includes joining them as a member of Cavan Credit Union, if they are not already one, and helping them transfer any payments they have with their existing checking account provider.

Speaking to Celt, Danielle further explained: “We have been offering our members the current account service since the beginning of July. We now have over 400 members with MYCU Debit Card and Current Account. The feedback to date has been very positive. Members are happy that the card and current account allow them to bank in exactly the same way as with their previous bank.

“Of course at the moment we mainly open accounts for those leaving Ulster Bank and they are very happy to have the same comprehensive service with us. This service includes a globally recognized mastercard debit card, allowing access money 24/7, anywhere in Ireland or abroad.

Fees are competitive

“New current account holders are also pleasantly surprised by our fees, which are a competitive monthly fee of €5, which includes five free cash withdrawals from ATMs per month and all contactless payments are free,” said Danielle.

She further pointed out that, in keeping with Credit Union’s strong community and social ethos, there are no monthly fees for members over 65 or full-time students over 16.

To open a current account with Cavan Credit Union, there are a number of easy options ranging from opening a new account online or through the CavanCU app, or in branch by making an appointment with Danielle. Currently, there is a two to three day wait time for appointments.

Therese finished urging people to come to the launch event.

“We would love to see as many people as possible when we launch next Friday morning. The launch will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with all welcome. Northern Sound will be streaming live on the day and there will be refreshments, treats and a raffle for members on the day.
